James Walsh is the founder of ComplyEur, which he built after watching UK employers try to answer a deceptively simple question — how many Schengen days does this employee have left? — from spreadsheets that quietly disagreed with each other.
He wrote and maintains the calculation engine the product runs on. It is deliberately boring: pure, deterministic, dependency-free of the database, and covered by property-based tests that check the rolling-window arithmetic against thousands of generated trip combinations. Every published figure on this site comes out of that engine rather than a hand-worked example.
He is not an immigration adviser and not a lawyer, and nothing on this site is legal advice. ComplyEur’s job is narrower and more useful: do the arithmetic reliably, show the trips behind the answer, and cite the published rules the calculation follows so anyone can check it. Where a question turns on legal interpretation rather than counting, the guides say so and point at the primary source.
